I’ve developed a real appetite for business knowledge through owning and operating my shop and listening to the experiences and struggles of various customers and peers. I quickly realized that sole traders and small business owners tend to be lost with certain aspects of running their businesses and felt inspired to offer them resources through an accessible format.
The solution was to launch a one-day business conference for creative professionals. The aim to was to better equip them with relevant business skills. We invited industry speakers running successful design studios and small businesses across Australia as well as experts in accounting, legal and business to share their knowledge.
The day was split into two parts. The morning consisted of speakers sharing details on a range of topics including breakdowns of invoices and quotes, time management tips and tools, staffing rules and regulations, accounting intro, social media strategies and much more. The second part of the day we hosted a ‘market of services’ were our audience could meet with lawyers, accountants and business advisors and mentors from the community to have their individual questions answered and personal business needs met. We wanted to bring these people together to have both parties gain from the experience in a personalized and informal setting.
