Print Materials & Promotion
This project became a personal labour of love as it introduced me to my future husband, a drum-maker requiring a logo for his new label of hand-made cajóns. He wanted his logo to reflect aspects of the natural materials used while also capturing the idea of sound. He named his business Timbre Percussion. The word 'timbre' means 'the character or quality of a musical sound based on its pitch and intensity'. He enjoyed that the word was also a play on 'timber', the predominant material used in his pieces.
For the mark, a tree is broken down into two pieces; it's roots or base, and it's foliage or fruit. We used these two components to reflect the brand's qualities. The base represents the tangible physical materials used in each drum, while it's ephemeral 'fruit' is represented as the movement of sound waves. The wordmark includes small details like the rooting of the 'm' and the carved details of the 'b' to further emphasize the hand-crafted natural elements of each drum.
